UPDATE: IF YOU WANT TO SKIP EVERYTHING, GET THE #1 BEST MODEL RIGHT HERE
These are phones that also work very well in the office. The major problem that most consumers face when trying to find out what is the best cordless phone is the endless selection.
The physical design of modern cordless phones hasn’t changed much, but many of the features have become far more complex. The good news is that we’ve done all of the research for you.
We’ve hand-picked the top cordless phones based on what you need them for. We’ve read through countless reviews, looked at the latest features and have taken guesswork out of the equation.
Best Cordless Phone with Answering Machine
There are TOO many phones with answering machines. We had to look through a lot of different products, but eventually, we decided this phone was the best. It’s the Panasonic KX-TGE275S Link2Cell Bluetooth Enabled Phone.
The original phone that we were looking to replace is the Panasonic KS-TG5240, which is 5.8 GHz. We had to look at reviews from many different retailers, including Consumer Reports. We looked into several other phones made by Uniden and V-tech, but we kept getting drawn back to Panasonic.
One of the major reasons why we chose this phone is because it allows you to schedule your phone to ring only during certain hours, which involves using the ‘silent mode’ feature. Virtually no other phones offer this feature.
Obviously, we wanted to find the best phone with an answering machine, but we also wanted it to have good range and other important features that we would need.
The range is important because it needs to work well throughout our home. We found that this model has excellent range. We think the silver model looks the best.
What We Like About This Phone
First, we really like the display because it’s bright, large and easy to read. The silver color looks great in our home. When the phone is not being used, it shows the time, which is convenient.
The volume control for the earpiece is actually on the side of the phone, so it’s easy to adjust without taking the phone away from your ear. This particular model allows you to name each handset, which is great for when making intercom calls to know who is who.
The answering machine was the main feature we were looking at. On this phone, it’s very easy to setup. A handset can be used to record a greeting, and the instructions really aren’t even needed because it’s so easy.
There is also a really cool feature that makes it possible to automatically block telemarketers. Another cool feature is that the phone will even work during a power outage, but the base must be charged.
What We Don’t Like
One of the issues with this phone is that it has trouble transferring a call after receiving or making the call. During the call, you have to go to the menu, scroll down past the equalizer to the intercom function, select the handset you want to transfer the call to and press enter.
There is also a ‘noise reduction’ button, but it doesn’t really seem like it works. While there are some minor issues, we chose this as the best cordless phone with an answering machine.
Best Cordless Phone for seniors
As you probably know, seniors tend to have some ‘needs’ that younger folks don’t have. That’s not meant to single them out or make them sound like animals or something – they just require some special features that younger individuals don’t really need. The two major problems that seniors face are vision and hearing related. They have more trouble seeing and hearing than others. Therefore, the best phone system for them is going to remedy these issues. We did a lot of research, and although it’s quite pricey, we ended up going with this model.
It’s the Uniden Big Button Cordless Phone and Digital Answering System EZAI2997. We searched far and wide through models that were good candidates for seniors.
We wanted a phone that felt really solid in our hand, delivered improved vision and hearing performance and kept things simple. There are many models that have features that a senior would need years to decode.
What We Like About the EZAI2997
We like this product because it’s about the size of a typical desk phone receiver. It’s really easy to get a grip on. Many other models are scrawny and feel like toys. What we really like about this model is the fact that it has BIG buttons, which are solid to the touch.
The buttons are also spaced well, so they’re even easy to press for seniors who have fine tremors. We think the EZAI2997 has superb sound quality and clarity, which is especially important for the hearing impaired.
The range on this phone is also superb. It’s been used without problems up to 100 ft. away from the base station. It has a very large, well-lit display, so seniors should have no trouble seeing phone numbers. We also like that it has programmable features and a digital answering system.
It’s like one of the best modern cordless phones, but it’s built to make life easier for the hearing and vision impaired. The battery should be good for 10 hours at a time. To quickly recap, we chose this model because it’s not too heavy or too light, it fits our face very well, has superb, crisp sound, excellent range, bright LED display and many other senior-friendly features.
What We Don’t Like About the EZAI2997
Obviously, no phone is perfect, and this model does have its fair share of issues. One of the issues that we found is the display text on the display is overly narrow or vertical.
There is no dedicated on/off switch for the ringer. If cradling the phone in your shoulder, there is a good chance you’ll accidently hang up on the person you’re talking to.
Some of the functions are somewhat complex (like most other phones). Although it has some issues, we decided the EZAI2997 is the best model for seniors.
Best Panasonic Cordless Phone
If you look at virtually any online store, you’ll see countless phones for sale from Panasonic. Wonder why that is? Well, it’s one of the most well-known brands in the electronics industry.
Fortunately, we’ve sifted through MANY models from Panasonic, and we ended up deciding on this model as the best. It’s the Panasonic KX-TG4743B DECT 6.0 Cordless Phone.
We have actually owned a number of Panasonic phones over time, and it’s really one of the only brands that we trust with our money.
In fact, the KX-TGA402 is the last model that we owned. However, this model didn’t have a speaker ID or backlight, so when talking to someone else, it was nearly impossible to see the caller ID.
What We Like About the KX-TG4743B
Ironically, this phone is also a great pick for the elderly. We really like the voice quality this phone provides. It also has great range and countless features to toy with. The handsets are very easy to hold.
The buttons are backlit very well, so they’re easy to use in low light. Even if you don’t need all five handsets that this product comes with, save them because they cost more to purchase separately.
What We Don’t Like About the KX-TG4743B
This phone isn’t perfect and has its share of cons. We really don’t care for the usability of this phone’s address book. It takes far too much effort to get to the names you’re looking for.
It would have been far better for Panasonic to add a quick dial capability instead of the address book. While it does have some minor problems, we still think the KX-TG4743B is the best Panasonic model out there. You can get more info about it here…
Best Cordless Phone for Hearing Impaired
People who’re hearing impaired have trouble with daily life. A hearing problem can affect every aspect of daily life. If you’ve ever had to repeat what you said to your mother or father four times in a single minute, then you know that communication is difficult for these individuals.
Hearing aids are really the only solution for face-to-face conversations with the hearing impaired, but fortunately, talking on the phone can be much easier. However, the right phone is needed.
We did a lot of research and ended up choosing this model as the best cordless telephone for hearing impaired individuals. It’s the Clarity XLC3.4 Amplified Cordless Phone 59234. When we embarked on the journey to find this telephone, we were looking for a model that places great emphasis on sound.
For people who have hearing problems, the typical volume level on a phone just isn’t enough. They need something much stronger. There are several reasons why we ultimately ended up choosing this model, but it also has some minor issues.
What We Like About the Clarity XLC3.4
We really like this model because it’s easy to program. It also makes is extremely easy to adjust the tone and volume. The ringer is very loud, and the volume can be adjusted for that extra oomph.
A regular phone might need an accessory ringer to be loud enough for someone with hearing issues, but this phone has a loud enough ringer, so an accessory isn’t needed.
We like that this phone has all of the typical features you would want, which includes an easy-to-read Caller ID. If you’re buying this for your 87+ year-old mother or father, it’s the perfect gift.
The most important feature that this phone has to offer is sound amplification. In other words – it greatly increases the sound coming out of the phone, so even individuals who have severe hearing loss have no trouble holding a conversation over the phone.
What We Don’t Like About the Clarity XLC3.4
One of the only issues we found with this phone is that it doesn’t have an answering machine, so you’ll need to have your own answering service.
We also don’t think this phone is nearly as refined as many of the newer models from Uniden and Panasonic. The ringtones can also be quite shrill. Yes, it has some issues. Do we think this is the best cordless phone for hard of hearing? We absolutely do.
Best Digital Cordless Phone
When browsing for a phone, you’ve probably noticed there are many digital models to choose from. There are several advantages to going digital.
One of the greatest benefits of making the switch is functionality. It’s much easier to interact with a digital phone when compared with the alternatives. To find the best digital model, we sifted through the long list of options.
We were looking for a model that looked good but had more functionality than your typical, non-digital phone. We ended up going with this one. It’s the Motorola IT6-2 DECT 6.0 2-Handset Digital Cordless Home Phone.
What We Like About the Motorola IT6-2 DECT 6.0
For starters, we really like the appearance. It’s really a beautiful product. It’s curved, lightweight and thing, and it has a 2-inch display that looks really good. The installation of the phone is fairly easy.
The date and time on the phone are easy to change. The base station comes with plenty of wiring. Yes, the ring tones that it comes with absolutely suck but could be enjoyable for people who like melodies.
We like that it has an answering machine – you would be amazed at how many phones don’t. The phone also has great sound quality. It’s really easy to hear and be heard.
What We Don’t Like About It
We really like this phone, but it does have some issues. We think the volume might be too low for some people. Some people have complained about the phone, but we think it just has a few of the common problems associated with digital phones – nothing very serious. Overall, we think it’s the best cordless digital phone.
Best Long Range Cordless Phone
We ended up choosing the Panasonic KX TG7645M as the best model for those of you who need a long-range solution. This model truly has excellent range, and it’s perfect for the price.
Comcast is one of the largest companies on the planet, and millions of consumers have their cable and internet services through Comcast. One of the pros of the Panasonic KX TG7645M is the fact that it has a programmable voicemail.
You might be asking yourself – what does this have to do with Comcast? Well, if you have a voicemail service through this company, you can actually program it into the Panasonic KX TG7645M. It’s true that it has its own built-in answering service, but many consumers would prefer to use the voicemail service that they’ve already set up through Comcast, which is entirely possible.
This model also has an excellent speaker – the sound quality is unmatched. Even when it’s on the lowest setting, the speaker phone feature is easy to hear and understand.
The problem with many comparable models is that the speaker isn’t loud enough, and this appears to be a very common problem with other models while this product has a speaker that is loud enough even on the lowest setting.
The Panasonic KX TG7645M also has an excellent call block system because it’s incredibly easy to use. Many seniors have trouble with newer products because they have so much trouble deciphering the features.
With the click of a few buttons, anyone can use the call block feature to block certain numbers, save important numbers and set advanced settings. In fact, all of the features on this device are very straightforward and easy to use, which is especially important for seniors.
The base unit is extremely easy to set up, and since most people have issues with knocking the base station off a coffee table or similar, it’s built from durable, high-quality materials to withstand the typical abuse.
There is no such thing as a perfect product, but it’s true that many products, including the Panasonic KX TG7645M, come very close to being perfect. Fortunately, there aren’t many issues with this model.
One of the issues is with the telecom system. Although the Panasonic KX TG7645M has an intercom feature, it’s probably not what you would expect. In fact, it really acts as a page feature.
It requires you to actually go inside of the menu and dial an individual handset. Once dialed, the handset rings, and you can have someone pick it up.
Put simply, it’s not what most consumers would consider a TRUE intercom feature. Some people have had issues with the Bluetooth feature because the Panasonic KX TG7645M makes it difficult to connect the system to multiple devices, such as a computer or similar.
Overall, the KX TG7645M is the best option for long range. It has plenty of modern features that are added for enhanced convenience and usability.
Panasonic has really gone out of their way to make sure this system has all of the benefits and none of the downsides that previous models are plagued by.
You can go with a basic, single handset, or if it will be used for the whole family, you can get as many as five handsets.
It’s even wall mountable, so you don’t have to keep it on the coffee table if you don’t feel comfortable doing that. For the high-tech features and overall quality, the price is certainly right for this one.
If you don’t end up buying the Panasonic KX-TG7645M, that is perfectly fine! There are several other comparable models above. For starters, there is the AT&T EL52300. This model has several great features, and some features that aren’t provided by the KX-TG7645M.
It has a push-to-talk feature, which makes it extremely easy to communicate between handsets. This feature is perfect for large families. It also had HD audio, so you won’t have to ask friends and family members to repeat what they said while talking with it.
At a slightly lower price point, the AT&T EL52300 is a great alternative, but the number of handsets that you can get is limited, so it’s not the best choice for much larger families. Yet another comparable choice is the VTech CS6419-2, which is slightly cheaper than the other choices. There is no doubt that it’s the best choice for families who’re on a budget.
It comes with all of the standard features that you would expect from a home system. It also has a special interference-blocking feature, which is a godsend in homes that have many other high-tech gadgets running all day long. Consumer Research and consumer reports might have the technical details down, but we put in the time that they couldn’t.
